JunkFood Custom Arcades, known for their popular Snack Box Microcontroller, has recently unveiled their latest creation, the SWORL.
Dubbed a “fight stick” controller for multiple game genres, this unique device offers a fresh gaming experience beyond fighting games.
The SWORL is a fusion of various gaming input methods, combining the elements of an analog pad, a fight stick, and a mechanical keyboard.
Its design features a WASD D-pad, two thumb analog controls, and up to ten keys, providing versatility and adaptability across different gaming genres.
What sets the SWORL apart is its stickless pad, which replaces the traditional joystick with two grippy trackball-like “thumb domes.”
These innovative thumb domes offer enhanced precision and control, allowing players to make precise movements without moving their thumbs as far.
The controller’s ergonomic design ensures players’ hands rest comfortably, with inputs approximately the same height as a standard ergonomic keyboard.
Customization is a key aspect of JunkFood Custom controllers, and the SWORL is no exception.
Players can personalize their SWORL controller with options for artwork, LED lighting, MX switches, case colors, and even the button layout on the right side.
The controller also provides software-level customization, enabling players to modify LED settings, remap controls, and store or share up to 10 profiles that can be switched instantly during gameplay.
Although the SWORL is still in the prototype stage, JunkFood Custom Arcades plans to showcase it at Evo this August to gather feedback from players.
This non-traditional controller design shows great potential for ergonomic gameplay and for offering increased accessibility for a wider range of players.
JunkFood Custom Arcades will keep games updated on the release date and price of the SWORL through their social media channels and Discord as the project progresses.
The SWORL’s introduction into the gaming market represents a significant step forward in controller innovation.
By offering a unique blend of gaming inputs and customizable features, the SWORL aims to cater to gamers’ evolving needs and preferences across various genres.
Whether it’s fighting games, action adventures, or strategy titles, the SWORL promises to enhance gameplay experiences and provide players with a new level of control and immersion.
